This English course is designed to equip students with the skills necessary to interpret and respond to a variety of written forms. Additionally, students will be given the opportunities to create some of their own pieces according to different genre styles. Their work will be expected to reflect competency in the use of literary techniques such as metaphors, puns, personification and so on. The students’ levels of competency will be enhanced through the further study and evaluation of world literature. As they delve more deeply into the world of language, their own productions will be expected to reflect a level of sophistication that is concomitant with the experiences to which they have been exposed. Finally, students should become critical thinkers and discriminatory readers who allow Christ like principles to guide them as they interface with the diverse and large body of literary material that is available to them in this technological age.
